The 10 best Xbox 360 games under $10
The Xbox 360 may well be my favourite console of all time, with hundreds of quality games released over its 10+ year lifespan.
With the majority of 360 games being made backwards compatible with the Xbox One, it’s a great time to be a gamer with one of Microsoft’s machines. For Xbox One owners the library has suddenly become huge.
So following our respective feature for the Xbox One, here’s an equivalent list for those of you who might have just purchased the machine and are looking to grab some great games at super-low prices, or maybe you’ve purchased a 360 on the cheap and are wondering what to start with.
If so, here are the best Xbox 360 games available for under $10:
10: Skyrim Legendary Edition
Skyrim is a game that doesn’t really need any introduction, being one of the best-selling and most critically acclaimed games of the last generation. If you haven’t played Bethesda’s epic open-world fantasy yet, this is the best time to do so value-wise ever.
9: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Probably the best Call of Duty game in the franchise, MW2 builds on everything great about its revolutionary predecessor whilst keeping the game grounded and free from the set-piece-obsessed nature of more recent COD games. The all-important multiplayer still gets plenty of people playing even after all these years..
8: Halo 3: ODST
I’ve included ODST rather than Halo 3 as with the multiplayer servers so low, ODST offers a better package today than the latter. The campaign is excellent, and the fantastic local multiplayer Firefight feature means you’ll get the most value out of ODST if you enjoy playing with friends in the living room.
7: Grand Theft Auto 4
A massive game and in many ways superior to GTAV, the 4th main game features a wonderful living, breathing New York City, excellent characters and the best story and vehicle handling in the franchise. It’s a game you can sink hours into.
6: Forza Motorsport 3
The best of the non-Horizon Forza series, Forza 3 is where the franchise really became the best in its genre. With over 400 cars, 50 manufacturers and 100 tracks, it’s an absolute monster of a game and a must for any racing fan.
Bethesda’s Dishonored is a unique adventure allowing you to approach scenarios with more variety than practically any other game. It boasts a wonderful atmosphere, tight controls and excellent story – highly recommended for fans of long single-player experiences.
4: Castle Crashers
The best local-multiplayer experience on the 360. Castle Crashers is a 2.5D romp through a medieval cartoon land, where you’ll kill hordes of enemies whilst levelling up your little character. When 4 players enter the fray the game really shines, encouraging both co-op and competitiveness at different times, making for a proper laugh.
It’s just $9.99 on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
3: Devil may Cry 4
A very underrated game, DMC4 is the most fun I’ve had with the franchise. The graphics remain beautiful and crisp too, slashing away at enemies as a smooth 60fps doesn’t really get old. Recommended for fans of third-person action games and players who enjoy learning deep controls with complicated combos.
It’s available here on Amazon.
2: Geometry Wars 2
My most-played game on the console. The hours I’ve sunk into this game are frankly an embarrassment – Geometry Wars 2 simply has some of the most addictive gameplay I’ve ever come across. The remarkable thing about it is its simplicity – you don’t need any buttons to play, just two sticks – one to move and one to shoot. But the depth available is staggering. Recommended for basically everyone.
If you’re after a challenge, it’s just $9.99 from the Xbox Live Marketplace.
1: Borderlands 2
My favourite shooter on the console and certainly the best 2-player co-op experience available. Borderlands 2 is a sprawling adventure through an apocalyptic open-world, with tight gunplay and addictive loot-reward mechanics. Much better than many of the games that have tried to emulate its system since.
